Say “No” to Indifference
At present, many people criticize that the Chinese society is full filled with indifference and nobody is willing to help others, especially the strangers in the street. However, some people say that we have experienced the cases that strangers asking for help desperately yet turning to be robbers and thieves and swindling the kind-hearted people. And now, there are many fraud gangs extort money in the name of begging so that people do not trust beggars as before. But, I still believe that goodness and compassion are still live in our heart, which urge us to give a warm help to those people who need help.
Maybe you will never know just a small thing you do to others means a lot. Your giving a hand casually will be a lighted torch in the dark, brightening the road and retrieving a desperate wanderer of his confidence and hope of life; your warm words will be a piece of sunshine, melting a cold and helpless heart. In addition, offering help is a virtue. It’s an act of paying out, and it really will pay back. Helping others is always a good tradition of our Chinese nation, which has been profoundly rooted in our hearts. A Chinese proverb goes like this , ” Help others only by giving him a little drop of water, and someday he will surely return the kindness by a crystal stream of brook to you.” That is not mean that we expect any return when we help other, but once we do help, in someday when we need help, we efinitely can get a warm hand from others. I think what we need is trust to rebuild warm relationship between each other. Furthermore, by helping others, one could have a feeling of content and pride, a sense of achievement and the realization of one’s own value. As another old saying goes, “Roses given, fragrance in hand.”
In a society, nobody can live alone without help from others. Without help from others, we’re liable to be in dilemma. Therefore, let’s be generous enough, open our heart to the strangers, give a hand to those helpless in hopes of pulling through.

The Decline of Small Businesses
During the recent years, countless small businesses have dosed their doors and gone bankrupt. The corner grocer's,the small dress shop, the beauty salon, all are victims of market competition. Most of them are replaced by other small businesses that temporarily fill the needs of the neighbourhood but frequently end up, sharing the same fate of dissolution.More often, the market served by small businesses is taken over by large stores and shops. Businesses like the corner groceries and the dress shops have gone to big department stores and supermarkets, which not only keep adequate store and variety, but also provide better environment and service.
Apparently, it is increasingly difficult for small businesses to succeed in the present complex economic structure based, as it is, on small profit margins and tremendous sales volume. Lack of enough fund and poor management may be the chief cause of this tragedy. In addition, the quality of their commodities often causes suspicion of the customers as many small businesses are found to sell fake products for more profit, thus earning themselves an evil reputation. As to shopping environment and convenient service, they are unmentionable. All of the above speed up their bankruptcy.
Today, with the establishment of more and more groups and big corporations, how small businesses can survive in the tide of the market competitive economy has become a hot social issue.

Is the Spirit of Lei Feng out of Style
There are some voices claiming Lei Feng’s spirit has gone out of style in today’s society. They reason is that in commodity economy people should seek more practical things, such as fame, money and the comfortable life. To them nothing is more important than those things, which is often regarded as the views of the present generation.
There are some other voices claiming that the spirit of Lei Feng still has an enormous echo in millions of Chinese people. The great soldier’s story has such a strong influence on people’s ideas, values and ways of life that in every field of society there arise countless “Living Lei Fengs”, who follow the example of Lei Feng and serve the people heart and soul.
In my opinion, the spirit of Lei Feng will never be out of date. Instead, it has been brought forward. Today more and more “Lei Fengs” are coming forth from various circles among whom “Xu Hu” has already set a good example to the whole nation. The spirit of Lei Feng---an unselfish spirit will always encourage us to go forward.
